Benefits of Soy

You hear about it all the time... but why exactly is soy so good for you?

Well, studies have shown that consuming 25 grams of soy protein daily– with a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol– may decrease a person's overall LDL cholesterol levels (the bad cholesterol). And this can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

In 1999, the Food and Drug Administration ruled in favor of "heart-healthy" labeling for certain soy products. As it appears on packages, the claim states that, "25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease."

And that's just part of soy's good news.

Soy protein is considered a source of high quality protein with nine essential amino acids. And it's easily digestible.

And the Goodness Goes Way Back

Soy isn't a new trend. These humble beans first caught on as long ago as 2838 BC in China, where they were considered one of five sacred grains. Soybeans journeyed west, eventually making it to America in 1765.

Inventive chefs have been dreaming up nutritious and delicious recipes with the beans ever since. If you're looking for an easy way to add soy to your diet, there are many varieties of soy-based foods– like BOCA– that give you options for adding soy to every meal.
